Long Covid patients continue to suffer symptoms long after their disease. Reduced exercise tolerance and chronic fatigue syndrome, impaired concentration, limb and muscle pain, headache, abdominal pain, sleep disturbance, shortness of breath, and palpitations are most commonly reported. Currently, there is insufficient scientific evidence about these disease manifestations and how best to help those affected. In particular, precise data concerning children and adolescents are still missing. Therefore, this funding action aims to develop as quickly as possible the available scientific knowledge on the late symptoms of Covid-19 and to develop it for better patient care. In line with this, the research project will compare the burden of disease in children after SARS-CoV-2 infection with a control group. In addition, the results of imaging and functional organ examinations are evaluated and immunological markers and substances in the blood are examined, which indicate inflammation or degradation processes in the brain. The knowledge gained will help to establish special treatments for children and adolescents as well as their rehabilitation.
